Each year, the company—over a five-month rehearsal period—creates an impressive display of student artistry. Not simply a dance recital, the show revolves around an overall theme that explores ideas and issues from a unique perspective—it is through the conduit of movement that the dancers are able to tell stories, share important messages, and overall, offer something much greater than entertainment to their audiences.
Dance in Flight 2017 was inspired by true events and real social movements of the 1960s. It was an expression of the students' call for justice and their hope for a future without fear or oppression. In all, the performance sought to unite our hearts in empathy and rally around the notion of cherishing the dignity of the individual.
